Rambling Thoughts from an Addled Mind

My experience while watching tonight's Battlestar Galactica was such that I had to watch it twice. (Details to follow) And while I was watching it for the second time, I realised that I won't be looking at it next week, as I'll be looking at skating. Which means that it'll be nearly two weeks until I see the second part. So I said I'd throw down a few notes as I watched, beause I knew from the first watch, not really paying attention, that it was a packed episode, and I'll need something in two weeks to refresh my memory.
I have never taken brief notes for anything in my life ever, so when I closed the word document, I had 2,600 words about tonight's episode. It's long, it's rambling, it's horrifically lacking in punctuation, but I wasn't going to go back and put all that in, as I (at eleven o'clock at night) have work to do for school tomorrow, and there's this thing called sleep that I wanted to try. It's kind of like my skating reviews, only I spellchecked this one. It's also, and this should go without saying, hellaciously spoilerific, for those of you who care about these things.
OK, this is going to have to be looked at again, as I spent the hour booking flights and accommodation for my cousin online; with her and my mother behind me, talking to me. So not good, thank God for videotape. However, I did manage to get the first few minutes looked at, and what I typed during the break is approximately this ….
Five minutes in and already the wigging out has started… Baltar and Kara??? And she calls out Lee’s name??? Let me speak of the levels of ick that I am feeling at this present moment in time…and it is high… and not helped by my mother being in the room at the time… and GalaticaSharon with the gun in her mouth? And CapricaSharon with Helo shooting her? And why is it I’m feeling that they’ve leaped ahead in time? Definitely feeling like I’m missing something from last week’s episode, though you just know I’m going to be watching it again… and scrubbing my eyes out, but that’s beside the point?
Baltar and Kara doing the deed and she calls out Lee’s name??? Just so everyone else is as scared as I am by this!
General overview before I go and watch the OC … is it just me, or is this ep entirely fragmented and hopping around all over the place? Because it looks very much to me like we’re missing pieces here and there… but I’m sure it’ll be clearer on repeat viewing!
And here I go on the repeat viewing… and I’m typing as I’m watching; sue me. Anyone mind? No? Good. OK, the previously… and I don’t remember that shot of CapricaSharon and Helo in the throes of passion… guess I’m looking at that ep again too… ok, here we go…Lee and Adama boxing… Lee looks good in boxing gear… mmmm…. I’m meeting him, did I mention that? Oh good lord above… we move to the sex and that’s graphic for 8 at night… Helo on Caprica… GalacticaSharon with a gun… boxing again from the Adamas… back to Helo and there’s CapricaSharon and he shoots her. Helo, no! And there it is again… Kara says Lee’s name and she says it twice! Not once but twice as we cut to Lee getting knocked down by Adama… and Helo shooting CSharon as GSharon with gun in mouth can’t pull the trigger… and Kara looking appalled as Baltar can’t quite believe what he’s heard… Kara does a runner… GSharon asked to report to pre flight meeting… Adama tells Lee he never loses control, that he has to let his emotions take control – “I thought we were just sparring.” “That’s why you don’t win.” Baltar takes a drink as Number 6 looks on… and Helo watches CSharon bleeding, but he can’t shoot her at such close range… and now we have the credits!
See, all that? I watched that with mother and cousin in the room behind me, talking over me, and then I had to book stuff online for her… all the while trying to wrap my mind around *that*???? Christ, the things I do…
OK, more general thoughts now… possibly.
Someone being scanned as Donnelly Rhodes and Billy look on… and President Roslin says the cancer has moved to her lymphatic system. She’s talking to the kooky black spiritual woman from last week… says Pres is going to guide them to earth, Roslin says she has six months left.
Poker game… Lee has a shiner… you can’t compete with me a drunk Baltar tells him, I always win… and there’s number 6 saying she’s never seen him like this… he’s a freaking nutjob I tell you. Who is drunk and jealous of Apollo. Baltar does indeed win the hand… and enter Kara… and holy awkward… Baltar tells her to tell him Mr VP… and yeesh, there’s subtext! Would you like to play, says Baltar. Maybe you’d like to sit beside Captain Adama…. And she walks out… and the look on Apollo’s face, he so knows!
Break… thank God for videos!
Meeting with Baltar and Pres as No6 asks does he love “her” – Pres is getting snippy with him… and he stages another level four meltdown. Also manages to answer no to No6’s question… he’s a freaking whackjob. No6 doesn’t believe him… and he’s talking to No6 but raving at Pres. Tells her he’s not her plaything… which both of them repeat “Plaything” – No6 says she loves him, Pres says he needs to take a break. He says he needs a break to No6 – who promptly follows him to the bathroom (if this is another Gaeta like scene, god help me) and pushes his head against the mirror. She tells him it’s not safe to remain on Galactica… a surprise but she won’t tell him what. And then she’s gone.
To C&C we go… Raptor1 jumps… Boomer and someone else I don’t know the name of. And they almost jump into a planet which I know is significant, and they pull out in time. She thinks Gaeta gave them the wrong co-ordinates. There are oceans and continents on the planet… atmosphere is nitrogen oxygen… co-pilot is excited, GSharon less so. She says it’s more important than Earth.
Back to Caprica in a rainstorm. Their 50th day on Caprica… and I’m so going through my tapes! He’s holding a gun on her as she tries to tell him that she is Sharon and he needs to understand… he shoots off a bullet near her head. Hell hath no fury like a scorned lover. Tells her he wants to get off this world and that’s all he wants from her.
To Lee and Kara with her Cylon vessel. And more with the subtext… there is talk over the gender of the ship… he mentions it’s funny everyone else calls it a she, Kara calls it a he. When she says he should write a paper, he says he’s not as smart as, say, Doctor Baltar. He’s so freaking jealous it’s not even funny. It’s freaky as hell, but it’s not funny. Oh he’s a love em and leave em kinda guy he says of Baltar when she says she hasn’t seen him, and he keeps on pushing it… she tells him she doesn’t owe him anything… he calls her a pilot who can’t keep her pants on… just like old times he says, and she slugs him and he slugs her… this is one healthy relationship! Why did you do it he asks…because I’m a screw up she says.
Back to Pres, Billy and the KookyBlackWoman… talking about the planet. Planet is 2000 years old, dating from around the time the first 13 tribes left Kobol. Pres looks at pics, realises there are buildings in an inhabited city on the planet… this is another vision on behalf of the Pres I think. Describes what she saw, which the KBW finds in a book – it’s the forum on the opera house in the city of the gods, on Kobol. This planet is Kobol. Birthplace of mankind where gods and man lived in paradise until exodus of the 13 tribes. Billy’s having trouble believing that, but Pres and KBW are in agreement… scriptures and myths are real.
Which makes me wonder… how did GSharon know that?
Back to GSharon, who puts gun into her mouth and is stopped by Baltar. Is this a good or bad thing? He’s looking for Kara, he says, but he sees her cleaning her gun and he knows. No6 pops up and says deep down she knows she’s a Cylon… when GSharon talks of dark thoughts, No6 says the model is weak, but sooner or later will carry out her mission. GSharon says she feels like she’s going to hurt someone… 6 says he could sleep with her, but he can’t help her. Sometimes, he says, we must embrace that which opens up for us… life can be a curse as well as a blessing…you freak what the fuck are you telling her? There are far worse things than death in this world he continues… then says what he says is meaningless... listen to your heart embrace that which you know to be the right decision. He kisses her forehead… and walks out. Freaking nutjob. 6 walks off with him and then we hear a gunshot and a body falling… and we go to a break.

Adama examines pictures of the planet… considers permanent settlement. KBW says scriptures say Kobol points way to Earth. 6 tells him he should go on the expedition to the planet, that he doesn’t want to be on Galactica when “it” happens. Adama tells him not to go, Baltar plays the VP card, and then the chief scientist, need to gather data himself card.
Sickbay. And GSharon and there’s my man Tyrol. Who I’m also meeting, did I tell you? She’s got a whacking great bandage on her right cheek… he thinks it’s hard to imagine she forgot to check the chamber… she says she didn’t. He doesn’t know what to say, asks her what’s going on… she tells him she wakes up in the morning and wonders who she is. She wakes up and wonders if she’s going to hurt someone. He tells her she needs help. “Not from you. You made that clear. I’m on my own.” “No you’re not.” “Thanks for coming out Chief. You’re dismissed.” OK, that? Was cold. And he salutes her! Oh my poor broken hearted Tyrol!
Pres is talking about a key that opens the tomb of Athena that when unlocked will show the way to Earth. Adama tells her that there’s no Earth… she sys just because we don’t know where it is doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. He calls the stories of Gods and the Arrow of Apollo just that – stories. She says the Cylon Radar can jump all the way back to Caprica – Caprica!!! - to retrieve the key and show the way back to earth.
Into a raptor for the ground survey team… they ready to jump… there’s Cally in there. They jump… and alarms sound… and a ship flies into them and blows them the hell up… lots and lots of Cylon ships… another ship says they have to get out of here and that’s the one Cally is on… not sure who else is there…oooh Baltar screaming pilot down… Tyrol is there too… Raptor 2 told to jump back… Baltar freaking out… and general bedlam…
C&C, Gaeta talks about a Cylon transponder… the one form the miniseries… they know what they are now. They signal Cylon ships when close enough… Raptors are back… something’s wrong.
Back to Tyrol’s ship… which is going to crash-land on Kobol, it looks like.
Roslin told we lost 10 souls on Raptor 3, Raptor 1 heading for the surface. Need to take out big ship… Kara working on plan. Lee didn’t know… and he’s pissed. As is Adama… Tigh knew about it… whatever it is. Lee plays CAG card with Kara… she took a harebrained idea to the XO without going to him and he reams her for it… eye to eye contact, with UST, and he tells her at ease… she’s putting auto pilot into the raider, along with a nuke, heading for the base ship, she engages auto pilot, punches out, raider hits the base ship. Picks up the transponder says Lee, allows the raider to approach, nuke goes off. Boom Sir she says. It might work he says. It might get you killed. Would you miss me sir? I need every pilot I have, even the screw ups. He walks away. She calls after him Captain. He turns. I’m really sorry. He walks away saying nothing. She looks close to tears. And god help me, it’s evil and dirty and wrong and so many kinds of wrong but I’m starting to ship Lee/Kara. Help me. Someone? Anyone?
Billy says to Pres that what they’re doing could bring down government… she doesn’t have the right to do that for a drug induced prophecy. She says he’s right but gods have another plan. She asks for Kara, and he goes to get her. Also some water for POTUS.
Kara talks to Pres… Pres reminds her of interrogating CKR a few weeks ago, reminds her that he said all of this happened before and all of this will again. Pres asks her if she believes in the gods, Kara says she does. Pres walks her through scripture… Kara says her mission is not to go off on some crazy ass mission against orders. Pres tells her that she’s dying… has only told three people. A dying leader led humanity to the promised land... if you go back to Caprica and bring us the arrow that will show us the way. This is crazy says Kara. Perhaps, says Pres, doesn’t mean it isn’t true. Only chance to find Earth, Kara professes faith in Adama who said he knew where Earth was… Pres tells her Adama was lying. And you can see Kara doesn’t want to believe that… Pres tells her to ask Adama.
Cut to Kara and Adama… looking at the raider being installed with autopilot. How much longer till we reach earth, she asks. It’s hard to say… she presses, asks if he has a guess. He doesn’t like to guess. She asks if we’re getting closer, he says he’s sure we are and then walks away. And she looks after him and she knows.
Cylon Raider: Attack Prep test… Lee and Kara in space… Kara in the raider… powering up for autopilot test… she asks to speak with Galactica Actual on scrambled channel… she talks to Adama… tells him she believed him believed in earth… and oh no… oh no… he tells her he doesn’t regret anything he did… tells her to make sure anything she’s doing she doesn’t regret later… she signs off and he looks sad… Kara spins up the FTL drive… and she jumps. Tigh is pissed. Adama says she went home.
And that’s the credits.
OK… all of this was more to help me make sense of this myself, and try to figure out where the hell all this is going.
Obviously, with Kara going back to Caprica, this is how we’re going to get Helo back to Galactica, and also have them all find out about Sharon. And since I’m not sure that they can roll that particular storyline out in one episode, that might be part of the cliff-hanger. I’m assuming here that we’re going to have a cliff-hanger. And if anyone knows different, or knows for sure, then don’t tell me, because I have skating on next week, so I’m not going to see the finale until next Saturday, as in January 31st and you’d better believe that’s killing me!
Kara and Lee… oh my. See above comments about the shippiness of it all, and I really don’t want to!
Baltar. Freaking nutjob. Completely. And I’m still not convinced that he really does have a Cylon chip in his head… I think 6 is a manifestation of his own fucked up mind, that he was always teetering on the edge of insanity (there’s a fine line between genius and insanity and all that) and that his role in the Cylon attack pushed him over the edge. Because he? Is nuttier than a fruitcake.
And I still want to know what this damn Cylon plan is, since every title card in the series tells me that they have one!

Cylon Raider: Attack Prep test… Lee and Kara in space… Kara in the raider… powering up for autopilot test… she asks to speak with Galactica Actual on scrambled channel… she talks to Adama… tells him she believed him believed in earth… and oh no… oh no… he tells her he doesn’t regret anything he did… tells her to make sure anything she’s doing she doesn’t regret later… she signs off and he looks sad… Kara spins up the FTL drive… and she jumps. Tigh is pissed. Adama says she went home.
And that’s the credits.
OK… all of this was more to help me make sense of this myself, and try to figure out where the hell all this is going.
Obviously, with Kara going back to Caprica, this is how we’re going to get Helo back to Galactica, and also have them all find out about Sharon. And since I’m not sure that they can roll that particular storyline out in one episode, that might be part of the cliff-hanger. I’m assuming here that we’re going to have a cliff-hanger. And if anyone knows different, or knows for sure, then don’t tell me, because I have skating on next week, so I’m not going to see the finale until next Saturday, as in January 31st and you’d better believe that’s killing me!
Kara and Lee… oh my. See above comments about the shippiness of it all, and I really don’t want to!
Baltar. Freaking nutjob. Completely. And I’m still not convinced that he really does have a Cylon chip in his head… I think 6 is a manifestation of his own fucked up mind, that he was always teetering on the edge of insanity (there’s a fine line between genius and insanity and all that) and that his role in the Cylon attack pushed him over the edge. Because he? Is nuttier than a fruitcake.
And I still want to know what this damn Cylon plan is, since every title card in the series tells me that they have one!
