Dec. 29th, 2005 11:39 pmThis is me procrastinating about packing... am off to HelsinkiFiancé's place for a week tomorrow evening, and am telling myself that I have all day to pack... *shakes head* It's that long since I packed for anything longer than a weekend that I'm completely at a loss over what to bring, to say nothing of the fact that what with Christmas and all, I've not even thought about it!
Christmas went very well... turnover of visitors was smooth, controlled and constant (as soon as one left, another group came!) and the only time that the place was family only? The Doctor Who Christmas Special! And no, I did not drop hints, and/or lock the door. Santa was very nice, leaving me some nice things, including Due South season one and two on DVD... region 1, which I didn't think was going to be a problem, as
maggis lent me her season two set, and they play on my DVD player, and when I checked Amazon, the reviews said the same thing... however, when Santa was ordering the presents, Santa ordered the Canadian remastered better quality differently packaged DVD set... which, you guessed it, don't play in my machine. *woe* All not lost, as HelsinkiFiancé has region free DVD player, as does HelsinkiSister, so they'll get watched, just later rather than sooner. Which, with the amount of tv that I have to look at on DVD/computer, is quite possibly a good thing.
HelsinkiFiancé made it over for two days, surviving in the process his first HelsinkiFamily shindig... we were drinking in the pub until half two in the morning, (to quote OneOfTheHelsinkiCousins, "HelsinkiDaddy is royalty! He gets served when the bar is closed!") and I think the poor lone serving girl who was stuck there with us was just about ready to cry... it's not lost on me that I, one of the few who were not drinking, woke up the next morning with a sick stomach and the room spinning! I was in such a state at breakfast that my mother actually asked me if I'd been drinking... we think what happened was that my blood sugar just dropped through the floor overnight (can you tell HelsinkiFiancé is a nurse?) and the heating wasn't switched off overnight and came on at 5.30, thus baking us all in our beds... whatever it was, it wasn't pleasant, especially since Himself and Meself had to be out in Malahide between 10.30 and 11, as we had an appointment to look at a hotel for a wedding reception! No, we've not set a date, nor chosen a venue, but if one more person tells me, "Oh you'd want to be thinking about it by now!" there's not going to be anything to think about, as I'll be doing serious time in the Joy for murder! We did see two places that we liked yesterday, and we want to look at one of them again, as we dropped in without an appointment... I'll keep you all updated, worry not!
