Woke up this morning to the awful news via tumblr that Michael Johns of American Idol season 7 (David Cook's year, 2008, the last time I watched it seriously enough to have an opinion) passed away on August 1st. Apparently he suffered a blood clot in his ankle - he was 35 years old.

That season was a great season and I thought he should have gone further than he did - same with my other favourite from that year, Carly. Their performance from results night of "The Letter" is still one of my favourite Idol performances. I watched it this morning and it still holds up.

Damn.

Just renewed my extra userpics and when it came up, I noticed I had five more than I had before... yippeee.... needing to be finding more icons now.

Been to two table quizzes in the last two nights. Came second in the first, won a bottle of wine. Himself was happy, me not so much. Came third in last night's one (well, joint second, lost the tie breaker) where we won a 25euro gift card each for a local shopping centre, and in the raffle, won a 40euro gift voucher for a local restaurant! Not a bad night's work!

American Idol finale )

You know you're reading too much Television Without Pity recaps when... brief blink and you'll miss it moment from tonight's Doctor Who under the cut )

Yep, the heat's gone entirely to my head.

First of all, thank you to everyone who cut-tagged so carefully and helped me to remain spoiler free for American Idol. I have watched both performance and the pathetically and shamefully cut to ribbons with a rusty blade version of the results show results show, and by the end of it I had a huge tension headache, and further thoughts are under the cut.

American Idol finale thoughts )

On a completely unrelated note - is everyone except me at the London Expo this weekend????

*waves from England*

Been on my own all day as Himself is at work, messing on the computer, looking at skating clips and looking at regular old tv... this morning's Picket Fences on Hallmark was the one where Littleton's brother showed up and there's a siege and back story and just wonderful acting from Don Cheadle, so that was a nice start to the day!!!

Apropos of nothing, it dawned on me that someone, in response to my American Idol comments, asked me for the story behind Gary Allan's recording of Best I Ever Had the song Bucky mumbled sang last week... cut and pasted from www.garyallan.com -

Gary Allan; now with lyrics!!! )

So am looking through CDs of skating clips that [livejournal.com profile] kiddymir sent to me last year. And I find in amongst them a recording of Shae Lynn Bourne and Victor Kraatz skating to "Sway" ... with Michael Bublé singing live beside them. Victor and Michael in the same video clip, and I'd totally forgotten I had it... I'm a bad bad fangirl!!!

In other skating related news, was very sad to hear about the passing of Paul Wirtz, older brother of Kris, and coach to Kris and Kristy (Sargeant and Wirtz) for most of their career... I remember seeing him at the Helsinki worlds, slightly freaking him out as he seemed to think I was some kind of stalker (I don't know why he would think that; moving seats so that I can position myself right behind him in the stands so that I can get nice photographs is perfectly normal behaviour, yes???) and at so many other competitions with the two of them, and just thinking that they seemed like such nice people... *shakes head*

On a lighter note, I took over [livejournal.com profile] profshallowness's journal with these very thoughts, so more or less but mostly more cut and pasted, here they are...

American Idol Country Week, 9 become 8 )

American Idol: 3 become 2 )

I can't believe that I'm away at a con next weekend! Which is good and bad...bad as I'm not going to see it, and I'll get it videotaped...which means I'm only going to have to be careful on Thursday night online, as I won't be on Friday through Sunday, and will watch the tape before I come online on Monday night... but it means I'm going to have to wait longer to see who wins!

I realise that this post is going to annoy someone on my friends list, and I'm going to apologise for that in advance, because I don't know who it is and I can't go back to look because I'm trying to forget that I've just read what I've read... But American Idol. I think we all know where my allegiance lay. < points to icon > And when I say I don't care who wins, I really don't. However, I like to watch it spoiler free (in an hour from now! an hour!) and that's now not possible for tonight's episode... please please please if you watch the show, can you please keep the thoughts and results behind cut-tags? Please? My eyeballs thank you muchly.

Again, I'm sorry to the person who I've just doubtless really annoyed, and when I know who you are, I'll apologise in the post. But we're now two weeks away from the final, so I'm making my plea!

Have drabbles, but they will wait.

American Idol: Big Band Night )
helsinkibaby: (Default)
On a day when I heard the words "style", "class" and "Ronnie O'Sullivan" in the same sentence. Without the word "No" in sight. The end of the world is nigh.

And speaking of. American Idol Gloria Estefan night )

First of all, a great big huge thank you to those of you who knew the American Idol results and didn't put them in your LJ or put them behind cut tags or did anything that basically let me look at the results show just now. Ergo, we have my not so considered thoughts on the American Idol Movie Night Results Show )

And, in other fandom news, gakked from [livejournal.com profile] azarsuerte the Buffy/Angel meme, which, word to the Sky One watching people out there, does have spoilers for the next two episodes that have not get aired on Sky One, A Hole in the World and Shells )

Fic update.

Dreams Come True ) is a CSI Sara/Lockwood, for the [livejournal.com profile] csreports "Write a character not normally written" challenge.

Further Along the Rocky Path ) is a Buffy, Faith/Robin piece for the [livejournal.com profile] writers_choice redemption challenge.

Have just looked at the movie night of American Idol. No results until Saturday, which kinda sucks, but quick thoughts...John Stevens is back! Loved George, I don't care what the rest of them thought. Fantasia was amazing. LaToya and Jennifer, both very very good. Diana and Jasmine I don't care that much about, though Jasmine was the best she's been in weeks. As for the Spastic Hobbit, he was everything I hate about him, I completely agreed with what Simon said, and the only thing that I should say to be fair to him is that he didn't sound like ten different singers trying to sing one song. He sounded like one demented person shouting one song. I hate him. Have I mentioned that?
helsinkibaby: (Default)
First of all, for those of you following the great postal strike saga, still no Buffy or CSI today. And tomorrow being Good Friday, I'm not sure if we have post or not anyway. Which sucks.

Which brings me nicely to American Idol where I feel the George love and rant once more about that Spastic Hobbit )

I think that [livejournal.com profile] misssimm is trying to kill me with the new [livejournal.com profile] csi100 challenge - Brad Paisley titles. A series of seven is almost done, and I think there will be at least one stand alone probably two or three... grumble... you knew this would happen didn't you???

In other fic, we have West Wing, for the [livejournal.com profile] writers_choice screen challenge which uses screen only loosely and has Shutdown spoilers. It's a Sam/Ginger, yes I did type that right, called On the Other Side of the Country )

And for [livejournal.com profile] csreports scar challenge, there is the Warrick/Sara-ness and the crappy title-dom of Scars )

And now, to drabble. Again. Still.
helsinkibaby: (Default)
Let's get the ranting out of the way, shall we, with the torture known as American Idol, which I've just finished watching. Where I wonder what crimes does he have to inflict upon music for to get that no-account, no-talent, can't sing, can't dance, ugly-as-sin ego with feet off my tv screen? )

I feel ten pounds lighter now.

Did I mention I have a half day of school left before the holidays? Because I do.

And fic. For the [livejournal.com profile] csreports anniversary challenge, where I also incorporated the REM song titles challenge. It's called Star 69 ) and it's a Sara/Warrick friendship piece, set in the Fool for Lesser Things universe. Anyone remember when I was finished with that after 92,000 words? Those were the good old days!

Also, more Alias fic - please tell Weiss to shut up! This is for the [livejournal.com profile] writers_choice Accidental Tourist challenge, where I prove I'm crap with titles, and that write what you know sometimes works, apart from when you end up with endings you really didn't expect! Accidental Tourists )
