return of the prodigal...
Aug. 1st, 2024 10:22 pm1st of August seems like a good time to try to get into the habit of coming on here again... not crossposting to LJ because that truly seems to have gone the way of the dodo, but we shall see...
I spent much of this afternoon/evening watching Simone Biles try her very best to give us all heart failure with the Olympic gold medal. That bars routine and the mistake had my heart in my mouth, but I was hoping her buffer from the YDP would be enough to keep things close. She and Rebeca Andrade were both amazing, it's a shame either of them had to lose but Simone's floor is just otherworldly. I was delighted for Suni Lee with all she's been through over the last three years and wasn't it lovely to see them all smiling on the podium and all so happy for each other. Admittedly, my bar is the Ladies event at Beijing 2022 in figure skating, which is pretty much set in hell, so anything is better than that. But Suni's smile when she landed her first tumbling pass in the floor... epic.
I saw on twitter that Francine Pascal, creator of the Sweet Valley High books passed away. Those books were a huge staple of my teenage years, I devoured them. I think I might still have some up in the attic somewhere. This is a really good interview about how she came up with the series and how they were written.

Date: 2024-08-02 08:51 pm (UTC)I never read any of the SVH books, but so many of my friends did. She got a lot of kids reading, which is so important.
