A non fic update, mostly to check if cross posting is working...

I have been watching Strictly and did well the first two weeks as Himself was working night shifts both nights. This weekend however he was here so I am playing catch up, though I did get to see the results show on Sunday by giving Nimoy the iPad and keeping the sound down! I am not surprised Tony went first, and find it interesting that Len said he was surprised that he was in the bottom two as the public normally like the underdog...I pointed out to an empty room that the underdog that stays in also usually has a popular partner; Tony had Aliona. Need I say more?

Brendan and Sophie's charleston had my jaw dropping with how good it was, and had Nimoy woken in the middle of it, I might just have let her cry. It was amazing.

Cannot take to Julian and that partner of his. Abbey and Aljaz, not sure about, I want to like them but eh. Sad to see James go but not surprised. Hairy Biker Dave is going to see a fair few down, I feel. Like Ashley and Ola.

The Daily Fail were muckraking about Natalie and Artem today, about her dance training and her having "highly skilled dancer" on her CV. While that's aimed at every stage school kid every year, I think she's had maybe more training than Kara or Denise ever had? (You don't get lines like that otherwise!) On the other hand, I can't get too worked up about it - I reckon she'll get to the final (as if she gets to the dance off, the judges will surely save her) but once it's public vote only, I think that would get rid of her...if it's about the journey, she won't have a leg to stand on.

Also. Claudia. Never leave me.

Strictly!

Finally got a chance to look at the Strictly Launch Show.

Nicky Bryne hip thrusting was something that I never needed to see in my whole entire life. Plushy, come back, all is forgiven!

James and Brendan both got what look like runners this year with Denise and Victoria respectively. I approve.

I want to be Jerry Hall when I grow up; she was a hoot!

Aliona's face when she got paired with Johnny Ball will never not be priceless.

And in honour of the start of a new season; the seminal Strictly Pro Dance; season four, the jive, Rebel Yell. It can never be linked enough.

OK, I've just watched this dance twice on the bounce, Saturday night having seen it with a plastic bucket over my head, don't ask, and I can now truly say that this jive? Was Halfpennyesque!

Here, watch it!

And just because it can never be linked enough - The Halfpenny.

Have just finished watching Strictly's Broadway week, and great googly moogly, the disappointment that it was. OK, some of the routines were really good (Jason was, as Craig said, stupendous, and Alex and James were ethereal and beautiful and Robbie and Ola continue to amaze and surprise) but overall... Holly's tango? Blah. (Does Artem just not like her or are the Kara jealousy stories really true?) Anita and Robin were a hot mess (and I repeat, after Austin, no one should touch that music) and as for Aliona and Harry's jive to Greased Lightning, it only serves to prove that she's a shite choreographer, because there was too little dance and too much posing for my liking and a nine for a score? No. Just no.

So, in an effort to cheer myself up after that, I youtubed my favourite jives (the jive is my favourite dance) so therefore I must spam you all with them too.

ETA: OK embedding is still not working for me. I don't know what's up with that.

First, the jive by which all others, according to It Takes Two are measured - Jill Halfpenny and Darren Bennett, I'm Still Standing from the final of the second series. The first full house in Strictly history.

Darren and Jill jiving

Robin and Anita? This is why your music was a bad, bad idea. 2008, Austin Healey and Erin Boag, You Can't Stop the Beat
You Can't Stop the Beat

2010, Scott Maslen and Natalie Lowe, Hit the Road Jack - Scott, I could take or leave, never been overly fond of Natalie, and Lord knows I've bitched and moaned about overmarking on the show for the last few seasons. But this? This I would have given a 10 to, no question.
Hit the Road Jack

And finally, the best pro dance ever in the history of the show... Rebel Yell
More, more more

Here endeth the lesson.

Have been meaning to post this entry for the last couple of days, alas real life got in the way!

Went with the family to the Strictly Come Dancing Live tour on Saturday night... James and Pamela were amazing, and won the night. "Unchained Melody" is just as good in person! Matt is very popular though I'm still not a fan. Kara and Artem are very cute and their American Smooth to "Cry Me a River" is still amazing. Colin and Ola were good, I didn't know Robin and Patsy were doing "Anyone Who Had a Heart" which is my very favourite from them, and I started a standing o in my section afterwards! Also there, Jimi dancing with Kristina (whatever), Ricky and Natalie (who were very very good, and also popular) and Tina and Jared (meh.)

And of course, there was skating from US Nationals and Europeans. Cut for copious spoilers )

Well, when I posted on [livejournal.com profile] profshallowness's journal a while ago that I spoilers! )
*dons body armour* Off to Digital Spy!

Off to England for a week tomorrow morning. On the ferry ,so thankfully any air traffic trouble and volcanic ash should not affect us. Now if I can just be sure I have everything for Nimoy, things will go much more smoothly.

Saw yesterday morning that FlashForward and Law and Order are reportedly cancelled. This makes me sad.

Went last night to Strictly Come Dancing the Professionals tour. Bullet points, I love James and Ola, their cha cha to Old Time Rock and Roll made my night and even I can't remember what their rumba was danced to (blinded by the million sparkles on Ola's cat suit) I loved that too. And while I don't like Vincent, and hate Flavia like burning, to see them dance an Argentine tango was to see perfection in motion.

So after my adventures in blood pressure heightening, today has been a day where I have sat on my sofa and looked at tv. There was last night's Strictly It Takes Two (Brian and Ali's foot and his poor little face! And "we got up at 8 and I took her to the specialist" or whatever it was he said? Seriously!) , there was a season 17 ep of Law and Order (the Anna Nicole Smith episode), the season 18 finale of Law and Order (don't you love with when you're looking at the same show on two different channels? And am I supposed to hate Cutter as much as this episode made me? Things to ponder.)

There was a Bio Channel biography of Donny Osmond that Himself taped for me when I was in hospital yesterday that he left me to find as a surprise, because he knows that Donny is my secret celebrity crush (that I am now outing myself on) and because that is romance in my book. (The surprise taping, not the supporting of the crush, though that's pretty great too.)

And there were Criminal Minds.

Strictly thoughts Jive and Viennese Waltz )

Having seen Virtue and Moir's free dance from Trophée Eric Bompard, I just want to say that I am in the minority over on FSU who love it. I think it's subtle, I think it's graceful, I think it's romantic and I'm looking forward to seeing it grow over the season. As for Sasha Zhulin saying it's not the dance of an Olympic gold medal, well, to quote a famous quote, he would say that, wouldn't he?

Had a bit of an OMG moment today, when NewHelsinkiPrincipal asked me for a letter for the Board confirming my maternity leave dates, and I typed that I would be starting leave on November 2nd 2009, returning on 1st September 2010.

Which is when my head started spinning around, because seriously - 2010???? Anyone else remember sitting looking at Stargate season four, back in the day, and having the episode 2010 and thinking that it was a million years away? Is that just me?

Having finally watched last week's Strictly, all i have to say is Team Jordan FTW - either of them! Quite liking Ricky W too but not sure about his partner at all. Enjoying Anton this year too - the man's like a dog with two tails!

Watching Strictly... James and Zoe have just waltzed, and I don't care what anyone says. I love him with a love that is pure and true and have just found my couple of the year. Gawd help them.

For the three or so other people in the universe who like this sort of thing, [livejournal.com profile] luisa_f puts together a Cho/Van Pelt picspam from their scene in Crimson Casanova ... the world needs more Cho/Van Pelt. Or just Cho, I'm not picky.

And from [livejournal.com profile] luisa_f again, more picspam from Paint It Red

New Strictly Come Dancing starts tonight, yay. Going out to family shindig so will not see it, but have SkyPlus all ready to go with it. And since Himself is working tomorrow and Sunday, I can indulge myself with it at the weekend, all weekend, yay! May even get "Dirty Dancing" rewatched!

[livejournal.com profile] smiley_b and others, not sure if you've seen this, but it's a detailed run down of the change to the scoring system in the event of a tie on Strictly... ... my inner math geek is buzzing about it, and it seems to make sense, which may be a sign of the apocalypse!

In other news, the MamasandPapas website is worryingly addictive. I am mentally spending a fortune there.
