Jul. 21st, 2006 04:53 pmHave been having quite productive day today... hoovered all the downstairs, did a hand wash, talked to my mother, walked to the shop for a few essentials we need until Himself is home with the car so that we can do an ASDA shop, and this is my way of procrastinating until I have to do that big pile of ironing that's in the conservatory.
Dear God, when did I get so domesticated?
And! In the conversation with my mum? She actually *rang me back* to tell me that the house of a chap I used to work with has been broken into for the second time... why she wants to tell me this when I'm on my own in the house until tonight is anyone's guess!
Am aware that I've not talked about the Charmed con... had great time. Replacement guests were Michael Bailey Smith (the demon Balthasar), Dorian Gregory (Daryl) and Jennifer Rhodes (Grams). Did the whole DJ thing, ie no guest talks, sleep late, pub in the afternoon and party at night. Did do one auto session, Daryl, Grams (who I remember as Nicole's mum in Fame, told her so and amazed her, she was delightful) and Elizabeth Harnois (who was also delightful, very petite, very sweet, although there was the whole thing on the Saturday night of her asking for requests by waving at me on the other side of the decks and me, not recognising her, being all "Come around to the back love, I can't hear you!)
Personel wise, lots of new faces, lots of families, and I have to say, was totally appalled by the level of teenage girls who were there who either obviously couldn't hold their alcohol or had evidently left their manners at home, or both.... there was one girl who, when writing down her requests on the sheet, used HUGE writing... I mean, did she think we wouldn't see it or something? To give example, one A4 sheet was covered with Green Day five times... she did it twice, the third time I caught her doing it again and I literally took the pen out of her hand and told her that that was our last sheet of paper, write on it properly or not at all, then put the pen down beside her hand... she wrote properly, threw the pen down, and huffed off... cue much hilarity from the others around us and slight embarrassment from me at my teacherliness... but I'd still do it again!
And I'm not even going to go into the whole "Play some decent music if you know what that is."
Though special mention for the person who wanted, and I swear to God "rowe dencing"... it was Saturday night, so we think she meant "row dancing" as in "convention line dancing" but we're really not sure!
For those of you who were scared of my DJ status... this is Karl we're talking about here, you think he let me anywhere near it? Not really is the answer there... when necessity permitted only at first, and then as time (and alcohol) went on, he let me a little more... on the Friday night, he even went out and danced, which he really missed all weekend! He went out while Operation Blade was on, having cued up Swamp Thing, which I duly started off... got to two minutes left on Swamp Thing, no sign of him coming back and no song cued up... I told myself, if it's a minute left and he's not come back, I'm cueing up Men in Black, because he'd not played it all weekend, it was a con dance set, I figured I was safe. He didn't come back, so I got it, cued it up, and then, with thirty seconds left, he comes back all panicked looking, wanting to know what we were doing next... I'm like, "I've MIB ready to come on, calm down!" ... and then he got me all flustered and when I turned up MIB I began turning it back down again but I copped it right away and no-one even noticed so it was fine! Besides, it's all his fault! Marwan's response to hearing that I wasn't too bad at playing tracks? "A sober Padawan... excellent!"
Saw Superman Returns on Wednesday night... dear God, that was a long film! Not a bad one, I quite enjoyed it... lads considered it a little mushy, but we all enjoyed it.
OK, enough of this... off to iron!
