Back in my parents' house since yesterday, because yesterday morning I woke up at just gone six o'clock with two sore ears. Though I, as you do when you're only just awake, that it might be my teeth and the braces (because sometimes when my teeth are on the move, the pain goes up my gumline and into my ears). Tried to go back to sleep, but a few minutes later, my left ear started getting nicely sore, and I've had enough ear infections in my time (though not since I was in college) to know the signs. Realised I wasn't going to be going back to sleep any time soon (though at least I get up at half seven; I could have been woken up at two o'clock or something, which would have been worse) so I got up, got breakfast and took painkillers (I reasoned I was bad enough without taking something on an empty stomach, though Himself has since told me that parcetamol is ok), texted the girl I give a lift to, the girl who teaches in the next room to get her to organise work for the kids (because they have entrance exams in three weeks, this is not a time when I need to be sick) and rang my principal. Then rang my poor long suffering mother, who was awoken from her bed by the phone, to hear my dulcet tones going, "Mammy, I'm fine, really, and there's no need to worry, but can you bring me to the doctor?" I could have driven myself, but my stomach/head/balance were doing funny things, so I didn't want to be behind the wheel of a car...besides, if I'd rung her later to tell her that I was sick and not at school and had gone to the doctor, I'd have had another sore ear! Was first in doctor's surgery, and sure enough, both ears were bad, the left was worse, my throat was inflamed and I was running a temperature... home to bed I went, and there I stayed, and did so again today... was only a half day at school anyway, so I missed yard duty (though may have to make that up) and a staff meeting, so there is my silver lining.

My other silver lining was that I was at home when [livejournal.com profile] gerardkeating's envelope dropped through the door... and with it, the thing that I was begging someone on my flist to download for me. For those of you who are mystified, when at Himself's house when Himself is working, I make use of his broadband connection to download (mostly) skating performances from a message board. There was one link that had expired that I wanted to see, so when I was there, I asked for it to be reposted. Someone did so, the very day that I went home. Go figure. So I cursed, I swore, I begged, and many volunteered, [livejournal.com profile] gerardkeating made the point that he had other stuff to send to me and was so elected.

And so it was that yesterday, with a very distorted hearing for the sound, and today, with much better hearing, I was able to look at Brian Boitano (any South Park fans here? The movie? What Would Brian Boitano Do? Oooookay then) skating at the 1987 US National Gala, his perforance to Lady of my Heart, dedicated to his friend/training partner/girlfriend/decoy (delete as appropriate) Yvonne Gomez... it is artistic, it is moving, she is sitting beside the rink and she is crying, and he is so young and it is so adorable that it is seven different kinds of awesome, and I've been wanting to see this for ten years since I first heard about it and it lived up to every expectation I might have had and it completely brightened up my ringy-eared day. *squishes [livejournal.com profile] gerardkeating*
