Very sad about the Patrick Swayze news... was going to have a "Dirty Dancing" rewatch in memoriam tonight, except for himself is coming home after work now, rather than staying over, so won't get a chance to. (He watched it with me once, hated it!)

Adorable Patrick Chan article - my favourite quote from it?

Asked to name the major gold-medal threats in February, he listed reigning world champ Evan Lysacek of the U.S., former titleholder Stephane Lambiel of Switzerland, Japanese skaters Daisuke Takahashi and Nobunari Oda …

“Not Joubert?” someone asked.

“Oh, yeah, I forgot,” he said, clearly abashed. “Wasn’t intentional, I swear to God. Brian, for sure.”

And Patrick Chan, too, for sure. Bless his edited soul.

Media aren't going to let that angle go, are they? (Not that I'm complaining, I'm finding it quite entertaining!)

So, since Himself is coming home from work shortly, the "Dirty Dancing" rewatch has been put on hold. Nonetheless, I wanted to see some of it, so I put on the DVD (and how have I not watched the trivia track yet? Shame upon me!) and went straight for the last two chapters.

Man, I forgot how good it is! When that door opens and Johnny comes in... the famous line, and I don't care how much Patrick Swayze hated saying it, I love it... and then the song, the dancing, the smiles, the way they look at one another... and everyone getting up at the end, Jerry Orbach and the woman who played Baby's mother, and everyone's happy and I'm grinning like a lunatic... I love that scene so much!

I didn't see "Dirty Dancing" when it first came out; I was definitely at the tail end of secondary school, if not in college by the time I got around to watching it. But it completely won me over and I could look at it over and over again... to the point that, during the summer, when I was flicking mindlessly through the satellite channels and found the "E True Hollywood Story of Dirty Dancing", Himself took one look at me and just went "I've lost you for the next hour haven't I?" I told him it was a two hour show and goodbye!

"Time of my Life" was the last song that we played at our wedding too (and I had to fight with the DJ to get him to play it, the hotel had told him to shut the disco down, and I ordered - there is no other word for my tone of voice, thank goodness he's a friend! - him to send them to me if they had a problem with it, that we were ending on that song and that was all there was to it!) ... so many memories.
