Feb. 9th, 2011 10:43 pmNext week, on February 15th, it will be 50 years since Sabena Flight 548 crashed just outside Brussels. On that flight were the entire 1961 US World Figure Skating team - skaters, coaches, judges, families. To commemorate the anniversary, the USFSA have produced a film called Rise.
There are two articles here, one from Lorraine Hanlon who went on to become 1963 ladies' champion, who was supposed to be on the flight, but didn't go. Even if the Roof is Falling Down. And another, more general, one here, which talks not only about Lorraine Hanlon but also others who were spared by a twist of fate.
