So for those of you not familiar with the ongoing Garth Brooks saga in Ireland, he was supposed to play five dates in Croke Park in Dublin in July, over my birthday weekend. Dad was getting work tickets, so we were ok. Two dates sold in jig time, they added a third, then a fourth, then a fifth. 400,000 tickets sold, some 70,000 from overseas. Huge deal. 370 Local residents objected, with some 200 of the complaints now proven to be forgeries. (To be fair, CP is in a residential area, with an agreement, some say written, some say gentlemans agreement, of only 3 gigs per year.. One Direction played three in May.. Most of us thought an agreement had been reached beforehand. Apparently not.)

In Ireland, all outdoor gigs over 5000 people are sold "subject to license" , a normally useless line that means nothing, except in this case. Because Dublin City Council last Thursday announced only 3 concerts would be permitted to go ahead.

GB issued a statement "For us it's five shows or none at all".

Crisis talks all week.

Today, the announcement - all five shows are off.

I am gutted. Didn't realise how much I was looking forward to the concerts until now. I may have told my husband that I just needed to be alone with a bottle of wine and my disappointment. And when I say "I may," I mean I did.

Poo!

Himself refused to watch Garth Brooks Live from the Wynn; aside from him hating the music, I think he was a-feared at what my reaction to it might be.

Instead I had wine, chocolate and Star Trek First Contact.

A good compromise.
