So [livejournal.com profile] siljamus needed a hug, and asked for Lee/someone, post Crossroads if possible. So I wrote something Lee/Dee, and then had a thought and went back and looked at the last ten minutes of the episode and realised that Dee was in CIC when the lights went off, and I cursed a little bit and had to rewrite the damn thing, and I don't think it works as well, but here it is. *breathes in* I think I need a hug now!

When the end of the world has been averted yet again, there is only one place she wants to be. She rushes from her post as soon as she’s able to do so, not sure where’s she’s going, only knowing that she won’t stop until she finds him.

Then all of a sudden he’s in front of her and she literally has to stop to catch her breath. She’s become accustomed lately to seeing him in that damn courtroom suit, that costume that took her husband away from her and turned him into someone she didn’t recognise, couldn’t respect.

He’s not wearing it now.

Of course, she knew he’d be wearing his flight suit; he’d have to be. She knew that from the moment that she heard his voice coming from Viper Three. But she’d forgotten how it made him look, had forgotten just how much she loved him in it. Now he’s standing in front of her, wearing his flight suit, carrying his helmet instead of a briefcase, and when he looks at her, he stops and she knows he’s really looking at her for the first time in weeks.

He’s looking at her the way he looked at her that night in the bar, when they began to put themselves back together again, the night that he made her believe there was a chance for them.

And Gods help her, in that split second, standing in a Battlestar corridor, she doesn’t care that Kara Thrace is back from the dead, that she can lead them to Earth.

She’s back in that bar, and Lee is saying that he may love Kara but that he married her, and that he married her because he was in love with her.

She believed it then, and she believes it again now.

“I can’t believe you went out there…” she begins, but he talks across her, moving towards her, and when he speaks, she realises that he thinks she’s angry with him.

“I had to, Dee… no matter what you think of me, no matter what else I am, I’m a pilot.”

Conviction burns in his voice, brings tears to her eyes. She swallows them back, forces the words out, “You’re my husband.”

“Am I?”

It’s a genuine question, but she can’t answer, not in words. Instead, without conscious thought, she is pressing herself against him, her arms tight around his neck, and his arm that isn’t holding his fighter helmet is wrapped around her. His hand fists at the back of her uniform, and she feels him take a deep breath, his face pressed into her hair.

It seems like they stand there for hours, but it can be only seconds; after all, there is a battle to fight, a war to be won. So she lets him go, steps back, meets his gaze.

“You are,” she tells him fiercely, and he nods.

“Always.”

They nod at one another, then she goes on her way, he goes on his, back to where they’re supposed to be.

They are, after all, Battlestar officers, and there’s a debrief to complete, a planet to find. Probably another battle to fight, a war to be won.

But somehow, Dee thinks that winning the latest battle in their personal war just might be a good sign.
