So after my adventures in blood pressure heightening, today has been a day where I have sat on my sofa and looked at tv. There was last night's Strictly It Takes Two (Brian and Ali's foot and his poor little face! And "we got up at 8 and I took her to the specialist" or whatever it was he said? Seriously!) , there was a season 17 ep of Law and Order (the Anna Nicole Smith episode), the season 18 finale of Law and Order (don't you love with when you're looking at the same show on two different channels? And am I supposed to hate Cutter as much as this episode made me? Things to ponder.)

There was a Bio Channel biography of Donny Osmond that Himself taped for me when I was in hospital yesterday that he left me to find as a surprise, because he knows that Donny is my secret celebrity crush (that I am now outing myself on) and because that is romance in my book. (The surprise taping, not the supporting of the crush, though that's pretty great too.)

And there were Criminal Minds.

Hadn't read much on this, though knew it had to be something to do with The Fox, and based on the title, I had an inkling that all was not as it seemed. Knew something was up when he knew who Emily was, and the way that he tried to get her to read his little book... it all made sense in the end. I'm surprised Emily didn't get the Foyet connection sooner though, certainly I would have thought she'd get it the same time Hotch did.

I also like the way they're doing these little moments that remind you that Emily's the newest recruit to the team, and she's not quite hardened to their ways yet...her little wobble before they went back in at the end, when she shuddered over flirting with the Fox, and when they were walking down the prison corridor and the guy bouncing against the glass freaked her out.

I was slightly surprised that Detective Talia (Andrea Thompson) didn't know more about the conflict in Yugoslavia and it was left to Reid and Rossi to fill in the blanks... though maybe it was a bigger deal over this side of the Atlantic than it was over in the States, I don't know. Of course, I was also in the middle of doing my Leaving Cert, so was keeping up on all the current news events in English and Irish for to write essays on it, so that could be why I was all "Oh right..." about it all.

From what I can find out, it's just called "100"? Which is fine with me. I thought the opening scene was impressive. Beautifully shot and acted, bringing you into the house and up the stairs and just whetting your appetite enough. I thought that, post credits, we were going to get a "24/48 hours earlier" credit, and I'm glad they didn't do that, because what they did, showing everyone's reactions to Strauss's questions, worked much better.

I will admit, I had seen spoiler pictures for episode 5.10, which lead me to believe that Haley and Marshall Redshirt were going to bite the bullet (Haley for obvious reasons, Marshall Redshirt because, well, the name I'm calling him says it all really.) Neither was I averse to this, because I can't stand Haley, and let's face it, I looked at Dawson's Creek, so wanting a MM character to die horribly is not new to me. I will, however, say, that the moment I realised that this episode is a damn fine piece of writing/acting is that scene in the car, where Haley is talking to Hotch, and she knows she's going to die and so does he, and she's making him promise that he'll tell Jack how they met and how he used to make her laugh all the time and how Jack needs to know that Hotch wasn't always so serious and she's crying and he's crying, and I'm crying, and damn it, this show is taking a character I don't like, that I've never liked and they're killing her off and they're making me cry over her! That's some pretty high praise right there. And Morgan's "And I don't know what happened after that" ... wow. Sombre way to go to credits.

And special place in my heart for everyone's reactions... the looks in the BAU car. Garcia's screams. Thomas Gibson, please nominate this for the Emmy. He was formidable.

The end, with Strauss... "I know he would have tried to kill my son as well." "Well, that's good enough for me." I don't know if she still has the knives out for Hotch, or if she's been persuaded by everyone else and the wealth of evidence to give him a pass on this, but I loved that line.

Garcia's nerves in the interview room... compared to Reid's complete lack thereof. "I have an eidetic memory and that's not what happened." - I have never loved Reid more.

JJ and Will and Henry in the store was sweet... and JJ barking orders at the more junior agent, go JJ! Nice to see that there are actually other agents besides our core team.

Jack on the phone to Hotch... "I need you to work the case with me" - knew it had to be some kind of super secret message to the kid, and the flashback then, where he went to find him... and the moment that he took, where he was afraid to open the box, Shrodinger's Cat made flesh, oh my heart was in my mouth even though I knew Jack would be all right...

Interesting to see where they go from here... I mean, Hotch is now a single dad. And I've still seen nothing about TG leaving the show, so I assume they'll figure out something to allow him to be Dad and GMan all at once. And also? He beat a man to death with his bare hands. (Fight scene was fab by the way.) With his bare hands. The FBI shrink is going to have his hands full with Hotch for a long while.

Summary and conclusion? Two thumbs up.
