First day back at school today, and it was one of those reflection on the new curriculum days, where you look at what you’re doing and decide that you’re not teaching the kids half enough and you really should be doing something else for a living. Though I know that for the next two months, I’m doing English Irish and Maths all day in an effort to assure that they don’t completely disgrace themselves in their entrance exams. Although since they’re making their Confirmation, I shall obviously also squeeze religion in there somewhere.

That aside, first day back proved what I’ve long thought – teaching would be a lovely job if there weren’t any kids.

That much said, I must speak of Grace and in an effort to protect those who have not seen it and do not wish to know of it, I shall talk about my opinions, complete with dialogue, so really don’t click if you don’t want to know,
I swear before all that is holy, fandom never ceases to amaze me, how a group of people, otherwise sane and reasonable and quite intelligent, can look at the same 42 minutes of television, and see something completely different! I finished looking at it, squealed my little lungs out, and basically came to the conclusion that were I a Sam/Jack shipper, I’d be chewing nails right about then… but when I come online, I find happiness! First off, I know that it did make canon the fact that Sam feels something for Jack, that much cannot be denied. And yes, she called him Jack at the end. But was I the only one who heard her basically admit that it was time to move on, that as long as she was holding out for him, she’d never get hurt? I’m falling under “The ship is dead!” thinking myself, and I know from the SDR list that [livejournal.com profile] demon_faith agrees with me, thank you dearie, for making me know that I’m not going insane! (Or any more insane, but y’know)
Good things about the ep – it’s nice to know that even in Sam’s mind, she and Daniel have that snarky sparky back and forth banter going on… and I liked how he helped her to figure things out, shades of how she did the same for him in his hallucination in Forever in a Day. Unlike others, I didn’t find Hallucino-Daniel annoying, or at least if I did, it was in an endearing way!
Hallucino-Jacob, I adored. And that speech that he made to her – which I quote in full here, because how can you not? “For as long as she was alive, your mother showed me a world beyond just ambition and career. She gave my life meaning, and balance, and it was my honour to love her for the short time she was with me. And if I were young again, and I met her for the first time; even knowing her fate, I would do it all over again. That is love. Sam I know you’ve denied your self the experience because you think it must inevitably end in pain and loneliness… it’s time to let go of the things that prevent you finding happiness. You deserve to love someone… and be loved in return.” Seriously, I was reaching for the tissues, especially when you know that it’s Sam’s own subconscious that’s talking to her, telling her what she was missing in her life.
And as for Hallucino-Jack, he got, frankly, the line of the episode, with the one “Maybe it’s not me that’s the problem here. Let’s face it, I’m not that complex.” I laughed out loud! But when he told her that he was a safe bet, and that Hallucino-Jacob was right, that really hammered the nail in the S/J coffin for me; As long as I’m thinking about you, setting my sights on what I think is unattainable, there’s no chance of being hurt by someone else. was another one to it. The scene in the infirmary at the end, while sweet, was just a nice wake.
Hallucino-Teal’c was kinda freaky… I like my normal Teal’c thank you very much! But the scene between him and Jack in the locker room – nice continuity reference to Paradise Lost but was it just me or did the scene end horribly quickly, with the Sky One card to commercial? I literally roared at my tv “You can’t leave it there!” And yet, they did.
All in all, definitely one of my favourites this season, and I’d love it more if my Sky One reception weren’t on the fritz… this is one that I’m going to have to re-tape when they repeat it. Oh, the hardship of it all…

For those of you who are not into the SG1 of it all, I have West Wing drabbles for the chance challenge over at TWW100.
Leo knows that this is the height of insanity. No matter that it is late on a Friday night, that they are in the Steam Pipe Trunk Distribution Venue, where hardly anyone ever comes, and they would hear them if they did.

He is still the White House Chief of Staff. She is still a Deputy White House Counsel.

They should absolutely not be doing this.

But then Ainsley shifts against him, pressing her body closer to his. His fingers automatically tighten in her hair in response, and he pushes those concerns aside.

Rightly or wrongly, he’ll take his chances. - Leo/Ainsley, no spoilers.

Donna is one of Sam’s best friends.

When his father tears his world apart, she hugs him, makes him feel better.

Her smile, not Harry Conroy’s words, gets him up off the dirt over the Kevin Kahn videotape thing.

She’s the first, the only one he tells about running for election; her reaction is total support.

He fires a campaign worker to defend her honour, but she never looks at him like she looks at Josh.

He doesn’t stand a cat in hell’s chance with her; he shouldn’t even think about it.

He has just as much chance of stopping. Sam/Donna (yes, you read that right!) spoilers all over the place.
And

“Well, this is a surprise.”

They are the first words Charlie says when Zoey stops kissing him, and he knows he’s looking a gift horse in the mouth, but he can’t help himself. “Why did you do that?”

“Because.” She’s trying for nonchalance, but he can see her shaking. “Give me one more chance.”

“Are you doing this because you’re scared?” he demands. “Lonely?” Then a thought. “You know something? I don’t care.”

He reaches for her, she stands her ground. “I’m doing this because I love you.”

“Oh.” He absorbs that, then reaches for her again. “That’s fine too.” which is Charlie/Zoey, non-spoilerific, where the title comes from Fleetwood Mac, and Charlie incarnates the spirit of Lloyd Dobler.

And just to be a little bit different, we have a Warrick/Sara future fic for the Writer’s Choice “Old Friends” challenge, called
Pulse pounding, slick-palmed, Warrick burst into the Desert Palm ER, having made the trip from his place in half the normal journey time; all because of the voice on the other end of the phone line, the voice he hadn’t heard in almost four years.

He’d been asleep, but two words had had him wide awake. “It’s me.”

The voice had been unsure, shaky, just as it had been the last time he’d heard it, when she’d told him that she had to leave Vegas, because there was him, and there was Grissom, and she didn’t know how she felt and it was just too hard. He’d been too proud to beg her to stay; had been disappointed, but not surprised, when she didn’t keep in touch.

Until today.

“Where are you?” he’d demanded, too surprised for manners, and her reply had him jumping to his feet.

“I’m at Desert Palm… There was an accident…”

He’d told her he’d be right there, had been good as his word, was wondering where to look when he heard his name. He turned, and there she was, looking nothing like he remembered.

Her hair was longer, curling halfway down her back, and to his experienced eye, it looked like she’d put on some much-needed weight. She wore a pale green t-shirt and blue jeans, her face pale and drawn, her gait stiff. He was so happy to see her though, walking and talking and in one piece, that he was halfway to hugging her before all that registered.

It was only when she gasped in his arms, and not in a good way, that he let her go, looking down at her curiously. One hand on her ribs, she smiled ruefully, perhaps even a touch embarrassed. “Sore ribs,” she explained. “Air bag.”

He chuckled, relieved that that was all it was. “See, this is why I never used to let you drive,” he quipped, and she smiled too, even managing a small laugh. Shaking his head, he reached out a hand, pushing back a lock of hair from her face, letting his fingers linger on her cheek.

It was then that he noticed the dark shadows under her eyes, the fading bruise on her temple, one that couldn’t have been caused by the crash. He frowned, looked harder, and her gaze fell as she swallowed hard. There were more marks on her neck, and lurid red fingermarks on her arm, and suddenly he wondered how much of her rib damage was from an air bag. “Sara…” he began, but she cut him off, still not looking at him.

“The car went off the road… I think I must have fallen asleep… I was driving all night, from Denver…”

“You drove from Denver?” Warrick couldn’t keep the incredulity out of his voice. “Why the hell-” And then he knew, snapped his mouth shut.

“I didn’t want him to find us,” she said quietly.

He tilted his head, wondering had he heard her wrong. “Us?”

She met his eyes for a second, then turned around. “Carrie?” she called. “Come over here baby…” She knelt down as she spoke, and Warrick watched in amazement as a small girl toddled over to them, a small girl who was a miniature Sara. For an instant, Warrick entertained an impossible thought, Sara’s next words putting paid to that notion. “She’s two,” she said quietly, but the little girl took exception to that.

“I nearly three,” she said, holding out a pudgy hand with five fingers extended, looking so serious that Warrick could only smile. “Who you?”

“I’m Warrick,” he said, squatting down to the little girl’s level. “I’m an old friend of your mommy’s.” Glancing at Sara briefly, he continued addressing Carrie. “Why don’t you go back over to those toys?” he suggested. “Let me talk to your mommy.” Carrie looked at Sara for permission, and Sara nodded, looking after her as Warrick helped her up, gently touching the marks on her arm. “Her father?”

Sara nodded, tears in her eyes. “I had to get away,” she whispered. “I know it’s an imposition… but I had nowhere else to go.”

Shaking his head, Warrick squeezed her shoulder, running his hand down so that their fingers intertwined. “You’re right where you belong,” he countered, and she met his gaze then, more tears threatening.

“Maybe I never should have left in the first place.”

“And maybe I shouldn’t have let you go,” he said, taking another step towards her, slipping his free arm around her waist, closing his eyes when she stepped into him, her head resting on his shoulder. It may have been five years since she’d been there, but it still felt like it had then; like she was meant to be there, like she just fit.

When she lifted her head, her eyes, as they had then, showed doubt, but this time, there was hope there too. “What if we can’t do this?” she whispered. “I mean… where do we even begin?”

“I don’t know,” he admitted. “But we’re old friends Sara… that’s not a bad place to start.”

His words made her smile and, her arm still around his waist, she called to her daughter. “Come on baby,” she said, extending a hand. “Let’s go home.”

The little girl froze, grabbing Sara’s leg, her eyes showing real fear. “To Daddy?”

Sara stiffened, and Warrick’s heart broke for them. “No,” he said, squatting down, smiling at Carrie. “You’re gonna stay with me a while. That ok with you?”

Carrie’s eyes were still wide. “No Daddy?”

“Your daddy can’t hurt you any more.” Warrick tightened his grip on Sara’s hand, making the same promise to her as to Carrie, smiled when he felt her return the pressure. “OK?” When Carrie nodded, he stood up, inclining his head towards the door. “Let’s go.”

To his surprise, Carrie gripped his hand, held it tight as the three of them walked outside, into their new life. Together.

And now, that much done, I’m going to look at the new series of Without a Trace which is starting tonight! Did I mention that TG4 rocks? Because TG4 rocks!
