This would have been written earlier were it not for the fact that I got offline when my dad popped his head in the door and asked me if I wanted to go for a spin in his new car. As in a drive of his new car. S Class Mercedes, 2 litre engine. Automatic. Beautiful car. And he's letting me drive it... my daddy just rocks!

But now I am home, watching the crap that is the You're A Star final - think American/Pop Idol with the winner going to Eurovision. Watched the contest, such as it was last night, with HelsinkiSister and got very pissed off... the better singer is not the judges' favoured, and they basically told him in their comments, you're good but we want Chris to win. HelsinkiMammy was out but left phone with HelsinkiSister to get her to phone vote for James... we got so incensed by the obvious bias that our phones came out for the text voting. It was actually worse than the Ruben bias in American Idol last year...

Then HelsinkiCousin arrived this lunchtime... she and the fiancee have set the date. October 1st, so that was nice.

And since Meath lost in the football having lead through most of the match, we needed that good news!

Drabbles for the [livejournal.com profile] ncisdrabble100 songfic challenge. A series of six, set to the Brad Paisley song, Little Moments. Tony/Kate (from whence is this coming?)

Prologue

Tony’s never seen Gibbs speechless before, and he wishes he weren’t now.

“You and Kate?” Gibbs says finally, disbelief lacing his tone. “Kate Todd?”

Tony nods.

“For a year?”

Again, Tony nods. “You’re surprised?”

“Little bit.” Gibbs runs a hand across his face. “Tony, you know romances between agents-”

“Has it affected our work this year?” Tony knows the answer, and Gibbs shakes his head, tries a different tack.

“I’m just surprised Tony. I mean, you don’t seem like one another’s type…”

A grin spreads across Tony’s face as he remembers moments from the past year. “You’d be surprised Boss…”

The Car

Tony looks sharply at Kate, not sure which sound surprised him more.

The car bumper crashing into the wall behind them.

Or the expletive that came out of Kate’s mouth when it happened.

“Agent Todd, I’m shocked!” But he’s more amused, especially when her hands move from the steering wheel to cover her mouth, her cheeks flaming red.

“I’m sorry,” she says, and mortification has never looked so adorable to Tony.

“You kiss your mother with that mouth?” he teases, and a slow smile comes her lips.

“Among other people.”

Leaning towards him, she shows him just what she means.

The Cake

Tony arrives at Kate’s apartment right on time, slips his key in the lock, and walks into chaos.

The smoke detector is blaring, the unmistakable smell of burning in the air, and when he gets to the kitchen, he sees Kate, in her bathrobe with wet hair, staring at a blackened mass that might have been his birthday cake.

She turns to him, tears coming to her eyes. “Don’t you dare laugh.”

He pulls her into his arms, bites the inside of his cheek. “Wouldn’t dream of it.”

It’s a cliché that it’s the thought that counts, but it’s true.

The Directions

“This isn’t the way,” Tony tells Kate, stopping the car. “We should have been there by now.”

“I’m following your directions,” she counters, waving the paper. “Which I know are yours since I can barely read them!”

“Let me see.” He takes the paper, deciphers his scrawl. “Ah.”

“Ah?”

“We should have turned right about fifty miles ago.”

She throws up her hands. “And I suppose this is going to be all my fault?”

He catches her left hand in his. “It’s no-one’s fault,” he says. “And there’s no-one I’d rather be lost with.”

She smiles and pulls him close.

The Couch

Tony sits on his couch with Kate’s body pressed against his. This is the most relaxed she’s been in weeks, and while he knows they should go to bed, he doesn’t want to spoil the moment.

He knows when she falls asleep from the change in her breathing, but to his dismay, that’s the exact moment that his right arm falls asleep. There’s tingling and numbness and it’s rather painful, but Kate’s face is peaceful and there’s no way he’s going to wake her up.

Instead of watching the movie, he watches her, and in short order, he’s asleep too.

Epilogue

Tony is barely in the door when Kate is over to him, wide-eyed and nervous, and he knows that she’s spent the last hour pacing, chewing her thumbnail, waiting for him to get home.

“Well?” she demands. “How did he take it?”

Tony grins. She hadn’t wanted to be there when he told Gibbs about them, was terrified that she was going to be transferred to a different team, something neither of them wanted. “He was surprised,” he tells her.

“But he’s ok with it?”

He slides his arms around her, brings his lips to hers. “I think he understood.”
