Performance thoughts in a nutshell.

Jasmine. Oh my word. Everlasting Love... was there even a note in tune? It's Raining Men? Ditto. Paula, that dress was not a nice dress. The hair was vile. And in the second outfit, the pink top and the jeans with the hair and the flickage, she looked exactly like the description that I read of her during the week - a real life Lana Lang. Simon was right on the money with his comment about her hoping that the state of Hawaii have five telephones per household, and at one point during It's Raining Men, I actually cried "GEORGE!!!!" at the top of my not inconsiderable lungs. Seriously - we lost George for that? George, allegedly doing a Barry White number, for that? FOR THAT?????

LaToya. Love You Inside And Out... liked the dress, song was ok. Don't Leave Me This Way, much much better.

Fantasia. Knock on Wood, burned the house down. Loved it, and that's an MP3 I'm going to be downloading. Holding Out for a Hero, first of all, so not disco, and when she got to the first chorus I was like, Bonnie Tyler would roll over in her grave if she were dead, but then the chorus kicked in and she gave it her all, and I ended up really enjoying it. I think she still could have picked a better song, but she did it well.

Diana. This is It... knew it when I heard it, and she did well on it. Dress was better than last weeks. As for No More Tears, which I and the rest of the world know as Enough is Enough, well, the judges said it all really... she was incredible, and yes, I will cave and download the MP3 of that as well.

Results show - the world and his wife who called the Bad Girls group sing with the lack of George can take a bow.

CLAY!!!! With glasses! And singing! And an accent that was not that broad last year, but who cares! Clay!

Now, I knew Diana was safe when he said her name first. But when he said Fantasia second I was floored... because I knew LaToya went, but after the performances I was expecting her and Jasmine to be the bottom two. No way did I expect that result... third, I could understand for Jasmine, but second? That's just plain wrong. I mean, Randy and Paula had me agreeing with them. Randy! And Paula! When I agree with them, you just know that it has to be wrong! When they announced LaToya was hitting the seal, I hate hate hated how Jasmine was grinning like a Chesire Cat -she only cried when she heard the boos, and even then that didn't last for very long. Right behind the person who started the booing, and while I normally hate to see anyone get that kind of treatment, in this case I'll make an exception. That the judges may pick awful songs for her next week and that she may go roaring.

You know things are bad when the only other teacher in the school who watches AI texted me midway through the results (and this a girl who is not a fannish person, and who has never done that since we both found out about our addiction) with the message "Pass me my shotgun" -- I sent one back, "Anyone got a wooden stake and some garlic?"

I seriously can't understand this one at all. I can understand the power of the state of Hawaii, I can understand people thinking LaToya is cold, I can understand the teenage girl/horny teenage male voting for Jasmine, I can understand LaToya and Fantasia splitting their demographic, I can understand the sympathy vote those tears would have gotten Jasmine. But on the performance -- there's no way that anyone other than Jasmine should have gone home.

I swear, she's going to win this thing. You have no idea... she and Diana are going to split the teen vote, with Diana going next week. Then Fantasia will say or do something to annoy most of America and we'll end up with Jasmine as the American Idol. I'm telling you, that's how it's going to happen. (What? It's not like predicting her ouster for three weeks straight did me any favours. Let's try this and see how we go)
