Title: It Doesn’t Matter
Fandom: Stargate SG1/Stargate Atlantis
Pairing: Janet Fraiser/Carson Beckett
Spoilers: None
Rating: PG
Word Count: 387
Notes: For the
sg500 challenge #1 – mistake.
Summary: Carson knows this is a mistake.
This is a mistake; Carson knows that.
It doesn’t matter that Janet Fraiser is quite possibly the most amazing woman that he’s encountered since he’s been in the United States, possibly the most amazing woman he’s ever encountered in his life.
It doesn’t matter that she’s brave and fearless and strong, able to bring hardened soldiers and combat veterans into line with a blink of her (utterly stunning) brown eyes.
It doesn’t matter that the same lips that spout medical jargon at will, the same lips that are capable of bossing Colonel O’Neill around in the harshest language possible, are also capable of the sweetest smile he’s ever seen.
It doesn’t matter that he’s been daydreaming about that smile for months now, ever since he saw her work so tirelessly to save Lieutenant Carpenter’s life, when it was plain for all to see that the man was well past saving. No-one had pointed that out to Janet though, who had browbeaten them all into helping her stave off Death, and had done so with a steely determination that made the entire medical team believe that the impossible was possible.
And it certainly doesn’t matter that she’s the one who asked him out for dinner.
It doesn’t matter, because she’s his boss, and even if SGC regs didn’t actively prohibit them dating (and he’s not enlisted, so he’s not sure if they do) then they certainly don’t encourage it. Besides which, he’s not exactly got the best track record when it comes to the opposite sex, and if this date goes wrong, the workplace is likely to be most uncomfortable for the next little while.
This is a mistake, and he knows it.
But it doesn’t matter, because he’s still standing at her front door, wearing a brand new shirt, holding a bunch of flowers in one hand as he rings the doorbell with the other, hoping that she doesn’t have any allergies.
And when she opens the door, bestowing upon him a beaming smile that grows wider when she sees the flowers, he forgets every single thought he had up until then.
Because she is stunning, and she is smiling at him and he feels like he is the luckiest man in the world.
And if this is a mistake, it doesn’t matter.
He’ll make it gladly.
