I write this having not seen the dances themselves as I was at Mass. Came home in time for the results show, and man am I glad I did!

The surprise on all their faces was clear the moment Tess said they were all going through, though I did see a smock of confusion on I think Camilla and Tom's faces (or was it Rachel and Vincent?) when she started announcing their names so slowly. I thought something was hinky when I heard at the start of the show that there was a tie at the top of the leaderboard, and alarm bells were ringing loud and clear when they said that phone votes would be carried over til next week.

Smart money says that the Beeb only decided to do this because if people did vote for Tom, it was a vote and a fee wasted; he was in the dance off no matter what. Further smart money, or cynicism, YMMV, says that he would have gone out no matter what as both girls outscored him on both dances and the Beeb did not want to lose their most popular man.

However, I don't care why it was done, I've been wanting a Tom/Lisa final all week, and now I'm definitely going to get it, so I'm thrilled. Also thrilled for Camilla, was gutted to see her so upset in the backstage, and poor Tom and his efforts to explain it all...

Am thinking that we might get an upset too; I'm tending to think Lisa and Brendan are getting more and more popular as the weeks go on (meltdown last week notwithstanding, and even though they're going to play that clip til the end of time, I thought he explained himself quite well on IT2 during the week, and he definitely has a point about overmarking.) and Tom has always done well... not so sure about Rachel, we know she wasn't getting popular vote earlier in the series... could the Beeb have cancelled the elimination because she would have been in the bottom two, thereby confirming that she is less popular than Lisa?

That said, there should be some sort of rule that when it gets to final three that if there is at tie in the top of the leaderboard (or the bottom, come to that) there's some means of breaking the tie. Highest score in one of the dances, if possible. (Not possible, obviously if both couples score the exact same in both dances but at least it would be a way of stopping what went on tonight.)

My Christmas do is next week. Is it bad that I'm seriously thinking of skipping it?
