2 When did you create your LJ, and what brought you here? How did you get your username? Has it changed?
I created my LJ in June 2003 and it waslasairfhiona that brought me there. It was back when you still needed an invite code and she hooked me up. We'd bonded over our love of Leo/Ainsley from West Wing.
The name helsinkibaby dates back to September of 98. I'm a huge skating fan and was going to be going to Worlds in Helsinki in 1999. At the time, conventional wisdom had said my favourite male at the time, Elvis Stojko, would not be there as he would have turned pro after the 98 Olympics. One disastrous injury later, there was the chance he was staying in. That September he did a press conference to announce his intentions. I was online, on dial up I might add, in the days before twitter, hitting refresh on the email when one came through with no text only a subject line saying "Staying in".
Which meant he would almost certainly be at Helsinki. Shortly before that, Friends had done their London episodes, with Joey's catchphrase of "London, baby!" So in my excitement, sharing my joy, I wrote the line "Helsinki Baby!" in an emai, because he would be there and so would I. It became my sig line for a long time (anyone else remember mailing list based fandom?!) and when I was picking a name for this, I picked that.
And it's never changed. I'm helsinkibaby on LJ, DW, AO3 and tumblr and I have to be honest, I don't get these tumblr blogs who change their URL every couple of months. I guess the whole identity thing is different now.

I remember it too! I remember being nervous about the switch from onelist to Yahoogroups, even.
