helsinkibabyAs the baby sleeps, my rapid thoughts on the Olympic pairs free, of which I've seen five performances, thanks to Eurosport showing speed skating instead of the advertised skating, and the speed skating running long.
For once, the judging, I am impressed with it. Pang and Tong had the performance of the night, if not their lives, and deserved to win the free. That said, over the two nights, Shen and Zhao were better and I'm so thrilled for them that they won. I really wanted them to (though I would have been ok with Savchenko and Szolkowy too) but I wasn't about to say so, for we all know that I am The Jinx when it comes to skating. Loved their reactions when they realised that they'd won. All was right with my world.
Also saw Kavaguti and Smirnov - nerves got to them, IMO. And Savchenko and Szolkowy did what they've done for the last few long programs that I've seen, ie in worlds etc. Made too many little mistakes, and the difference was, this time they didn't get away with it.
Now, as soon as my connection improves, I'll be off to download those what I missed. Thank goodness for vidmakers!
