Lupo turned troubled eyes on his partner. “What’s this ‘we’ business? How can we find her when we’re on the bench?”
Bernard raised an eyebrow. “You know damn well we can’t be on this hunt. Anything you touch...”
“Is tainted. I know.” Cyrus’s eyes wandered to the television screens where, for the third day, the smiling face of Connie Rubirosa taunted them. “I just want to do something.”
Bernard sighed. “Just promise me you won’t do anything stupid.”
Cyrus’s eyes met his defiantly. “No can do.”
Bernard nodded. “Well then... let’s go hunting.”
