helsinkibabySo today I got to catch up on what RTE has shown lately of Flash Forward.
OK, so in Somalia, Demetri and Janis, how adorable were they? Because way way back in the second episode, the scene where he tells her he didn't have a flashforward and she convinces him to put that up on Mosaic? I called then that he might be the father and that the reason she looked so sad in the flashforward was that he was dead... and then he turned out to be engaged and she turned out to be gay and I told myself that it was the Mammy Brain talking and there was nothing to it.
But then! "I thought you were supposed to be baking bread this weekend?" The whole scene in the bunkhouse, "I'm gay." "I would make you gayer." "I might not be around in a couple months, I think it might be nice if Willa was." (Or words to that effect) Demetri taking one for the team! So did they or didn't they? I want to know! (I might be able to find out as I;ve just copped from torrent sites that we're an ep behind the states, so I might be able to find time to download and watch that this week.)
Seriously though - is it just me who wants to see the big monster epic AU of doom where Demetri isn't engaged and Janis isn't gay and the mole (and more on that later) and they're friends who work together and he doesn't have a flash forward and she sees herself having a baby and they talk about it and she's all "whatever happens happenes" and when she gets shot, he's all worried and concerned about her, and then in Somalia when she gets dragged out by Scarface he's even more concerned and turns out she wasn't so sure that she'd come back alive either and in the relief of it all they give into their feelings for one another and lo and behold Baby Willa is conceived and they have to figure out what they're going to do in the face of Demetri's impending death and DAMN YOU INTERNETS, WHY DOES THIS STORY EXIST NOWHERE BUT IN MY HEAD????
Ahem.
And then! The end of the next episode! Janis is the mole, a double plant! OMG! It's a long time since a show made me go "Holy shit" (aside from Lost, but come on, that's Lost) but this one did. Also heartbreak, see epic AU of doom paragraph above. But man! When did they turn her? Has she been playing it all along? Did she really see a baby in her flash forward or is she making it up, a la Simon? And did the writers intend this from the start or did they just pull itout of their asses out of the clear blue nowhere? (Cause that seems more likely to me)
But this show has captured me from nowhere. I mean, aside from the Janis/Demetri angle, there's Brice and Keiko and Nicole, and a love story/triangle where one side hasn't even met! And I love Keiko because she's so innocent and trusting and ballsy, because she gave up her life in the face of all that cultural expectation to follow her heart. And Brice and Nicole... he glued pennies to a wall with her crazy mum, and she's so obviously crazy about him and the kiss was really sweet and it looks like Keiko is going to be deported and they were THISCLOSE to meeting in the Japanese restaurant...
*breathes*
I'm liking the whole D Gibbons/Dyson Frost angle, the video tape was another WTF moment. I liked how they explained how much he knew, and how he knew it.
Poor Charlie! Now we know why she was so scared... and since Vogel and Mark are currently working together, why does Vogel come to the other man and say Mark is dead? I assumed he was OMGEvil and was there to do harm to Olivia and Charlie, but maybe not.... could the other man have been protection detail?
Olivia... *headdesk* Here's a thought. If you don't want your flashforward to come true, don't chuck your husband out of the house. I'm just saying.
Dominic Monaghan is great as Simon.
I'm sure I had other thoughts apart from OMG but that's all I can come up with now.
