Title: Some Measure of Peace
Author: helsinkibaby
Fandom: Castle
Pairing: Esposito/Lanie
Spoilers: Season three finale
Word Count: 267
Rating: PG
Summary: Esposito comes home after a hard day.
Notes: Spoiled for the season finale but have not yet seen it. Any errors and inconsistencies are my own. However,
medie wanted snugglefic and I am her bitch.
Esposito opens the door to his apartment, tries to remember a time he's ever felt so tired, so disillusioned. After a day where literally everything he thought he knew about the world has turned out to be wrong, when he's not sure who or what he can rely on, all he wants to do is curl up in a ball and sleep for at least a week.
When he walks into his bedroom, he stops dead.
For some reason, he hadn't expected Lanie to be there, hadn't expected to see her lying asleep on top of the covers, clad only in one of his shirts and nothing else.
He hadn't expected her, but when he sees her, he knows she's exactly what he needs.
He toes off his shoes, considers undressing, then decides it's too much of a delay. He lies down beside her, wraps himself around her, breathes in her scent and for a moment, he can almost forget.
He feels her stir, pulls back just enough to see a pair of sleepy eyes staring up at him. She opens her mouth but he stops her with a shake of his head, his hand cupping her face, thumb over her lips. "Querida, don't" he whispers, hoping the emotion in his eyes, on his face, will take the sting out of his words.
She understands though, nods once and presses herself as close to him as she possibly can.
It's enough to give him some measure of peace, knowing there is one thing he can count on.
Her.
